Basilica di Superga is located on the homonymous hill east of Turin, reachable
by car, on foot (the walk is very long), or easily with a little train, the
Tranvia-Sassi Superga that lead directly to the entrance of the Basilica. It was
built by King Vittorio Amedeo II dedicated to the Virgin Mary on a project of
the great architect Filippo Juvarra in 1711. The dome is in Baroque style after
a pronaos and supported by eight columns style Korce, note the presence of two
towers on either side. Splendido is of course the inside of the Basilica,
the plant is a Greek cross, decorated with Philip and Ignatius Hills. In the
crypt are preserved the remains of some members of the House of Savoy, of course
visited, among the remains will remind those of Vittorio Amedeo II, Carlo
Emanuele III, Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele I. Be stressed that here
is preserved the unique and prestigious collection of the world on canvas
portraits of all the popes in history, from San Pietro in progress. Outside the
basilica, on the apron on the right is the monument dedicated entirely to King
Umberto I of Savoy, who died ricordiamo assassinated in 1900. This monument
was designed by Pozzi Tancredi in 1902 commissioned the beloved son, Vittorio
Emanuele III. The Basilica di Superga is certainly one of the monuments in
Turin.
